I had the priveledge today of taking a tour of the US facility for Ironware International. They make custom, very high end lighting. Sometimes it's hard to think of a light fixture as art, but these are. They are hand-forged in the Normandy region of France. They do have a catalog of products, but you can change the dimensions and finish of any piece, or dream up your own piece.

We are so used to seeing production pieces that are almost too perfect. The pieces from Ironware show every mark and bump of the hand-forging process. You can imagine that they would have looked the same if they were designed centuries ago. They are truly produced and finished by artists. It's was such a great treat to go in their finishing plant in Nashville today.

Changing Tastes

Designers are the worst for changing their tastes very often. Sometimes a particular setting or trip may change how you want your house to feel, and what you consider "home" to be. Two things have really changed my idea of what home is to me and what I'd like it to look like on the ever-present next go-round!

Since I have finally had a chance to relax at my newly renovated lake house, the setting has really got me wanting more peacefulness in my home, and a more organic, natural setting. Oh dear, maybe we should think about moving again...In a designers life, nothing really is off limits for change. Some people cannot handle that, but I think it's exciting. I am not afraid of change. Take a look at this setting and see what I mean. Another place that has inspired me is Italy. We were very fortunate to be able to travel to Rome this summer with our kids. We saw a lot of normal tourist sites, plus had a private group dinner at the Vatican, and a party and celebration at the Castle where Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes got married. I did fall in love with the architecture and colors in Italy. The red tile roofs dotting the countryside were so amazing. Now I dream of an Italian style house, with a few acres and very calming setting. Let's see how long this one takes me!
